Book: Triggers – Exchanging Parents’ Reactions For Gentle Biblical Responses
Authors: Amber Lia and Wendy Speake
Genre: Christian Living, Motherhood, Devotional
Lay-out: The book contains 31 small chapters, one for each day of the month. The days are split into two sections: External Triggers and Internal Triggers. Each chapter includes stories and examples intermingled with scripture and practical advice, followed by a prayer.
This book is a good friend, taking you by the hand, laughing with you at the spilled cheerios, crying with you at the difficult seasons, and urging you on to be the mother you can be in Christ’s strength. I found it to be very practical, as many suggestions are given for a wide variety of issues. It is also packed with scripture, but not in an awkward, separate, “I-better-stuff-some-verses-in-here-so-I-can-call-this-a-Christian-parenting-book”. The verses flow in and out of the authors’ writing seamlessly. This is definitely a book for every Christian mother, whether you are tired or busy or a normal mom (which are all the same by the way).
This book was such an encouragement. It touches on many different issues that a mother may face. Some will hit home more than others, as each family situation is unique. But I can guarantee there are some that will be universal. And whether your anger is at “Hm, I’m a little frustrated sometimes…” or at “STOP that NOW before I lose my MIND” or anywhere in between, you will find help and not condemnation. You will find peace and not guilt, because the best thing about the words in these pages is that they point to Christ: the author and finisher of our faith. Finisher – as in hasn’t left us, and isn’t finished with us. There’s hope. There’s always hope. So take a deep breath. Everything’s going to be okay – and this book can help.
Moms. All of you except for the perfect ones. (Who can promptly write a book and send it to me so I can learn from you. Ha.)
Completely practical, no-fluff, scripture-full, encouraging and helpful. 5/5 stars.
